You are here Home / Scratch off Dinosaur card
It seems like just yesterday that Big A was born, but he’s turning 5 tomorrow and I can’t wait to celebrate with him! I was going to do the scratch off card anyway, but I realized that I (honestly!) did not have any wrapping paper, so I pulled out the kid’s big roll of paper and made my own. Making your own patterned paper (for cards, gifts, or whatever!) is a great way to use your stamps, and its easy enough that your kids can do it! I grabbed the No Bones About It stamp set, some ink, and stamped in random places on the paper. Here’s a leftover piece of paper so you can see:
Once I finished my paper, I wrapped the gifts, then made a little tag with Dapper Denin, Whisper White, some fussy cut stamped images, and the Banner Triple Punch. I wrapped the packages together with Burlap Ribbon and attached the tag with some random satin ribbon that I had. For the “bow” I took 4 pieces of burlap ribbon, made loops out of all of them, and glued them at the ends onto the package.
For the “scratch off” part of the card: you’ll need some clear contact paper, silver acrylic paint, and dish soap. Mix about 2 Tbsp paint and 1 Tbsp dish soap together, and paint it on a piece of the contact paper. Do a few layers of paint, letting it dry in between coats. Now, to be honest, mine came out more or less like peel off…not really scratch off. I’m not sure if I used the wrong amounts of paint/soap, but I got the recipe off a blog so who knows! Still looks cool.
The stamped dinosaur images under the scratch off part are on pieces of Whisper White cardstock, 1 x 1/2″ by 1 x 1/2″. I did 2 images in Early Expresso and 1 in Emerald Envy. The Real Red layer under the stamped images is 1 x 5/8″ by 1 x 5/8″, then a Dapper Denim layer 1 x 3/4″ by 1 x 3/4″. I mounted those on a piece (5″ by 3 x 3/4″)from the Color Theory paper pack, and stamped some “footprints” in Dapper Denim. I finished the card front off with the sentiment in Early Expresso, then did Early Expresso for the bottom layer (5 x 1/4″ by 4″).
As you can see, its more of a peel off card, but I’m sure he’ll love it! What kid doesn’t love surprises? He’ll be distracted by all the rest of the stuff he’ll be getting from grands and dad anyway.
If you give this a try, and get more of a scratch off version, kindly leave me a comment and let me know what your paint/soap ration was! I’m keeping this in my arsenal for future card ideas though! Here’s the supply list should you need anything!
